Joe Paterno is a remarkable man.  Here he is in his 80’s, while another great coach, Urban Meyer, 46, steps down because of the stress involved in coaching.  It’s not only events that shape our lives, but how we react to those events.

I think that JoePa is absolutely on target about preparation being vital.  The great John Wooden said, “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.”  All of us should remember that in whatever endeavors we are pursuing.  To me, the best definition of luck is this: Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

Joe Paterno’s Penn State teams struggled from 2000-2004. They went 26–33 and Paterno said he would consider retirement if they did not turn things around in 2005.  They did; going 11-1.

Many people have been calling for Joe to retire for many years. Regardless of your feelings on the subject, how can you not admire this man’s determination and  enthusiasm at his age.
